Maharajas’ Express: The Epitome of Luxury and Royal Hospitality

If there is one train that has glorified luxury train travel in India, it is the Maharajas’ Express. The epitome of luxury, the Maharajas’ Express has set high standards in customer delight and royal hospitality. It is not only about the exotic and popular destinations the train covers but also about the epic journey and onboard hospitality it offers that add to the experience of traveling aboard Maharajas Express.

The Maharajas’ Express takes traditions in royal hospitality to the next level. It pays tribute to that regal lifestyle. Befitting its name – Maharajas (great kings) – the very nature of traveling on this luxury train evokes grandeur and splendor of the royal era.

Imagine being welcomed by folk dancers amid beats of drums, stringed instruments and reedy horns as you embark on a royal journey. Aboard the luxury train, which is nearly half a mile long, guests sleep in cabins that feel like five star hotel rooms with silk window treatments, carved wood paneling and marble-tiled floors. Each cabin is equipped with individual climate control, eco-friendly attached toilet and direct dial telephone facility among others.

Guests feast off fine china and crisp linens in the two dining cars as the luxury train weaves through India’s popular tourist towns. The staff, efficient and discreet, seems almost to outnumber the guests, which are no more than 88 at full capacity. In the morning, expect valets to brought tea to your cabins. In the evening, when guests trundle through the long line of cars to dinner; staffers make beds, deliver clean laundry and leave behind little surprises like chocolates or a flower.

The royal hospitality extends on land as well when you are out exploring forts, palaces and the many wonders that the country is blessed with. Expect a red carpet welcome at every stop with music and dancers, even camels and horses in colorful regalia. Depending on the itinerary you choose (there are five in total), expect to break bread with erstwhile Maharajas or their lineage. A game of polo, atop an elephant is one of the highlights when the train makes a halt at Jaipur, the Pink City.

Upon their return from outings, guests are greeted with Hot/ cold towels and fresh juice /cocktails and. The itinerary and services are designed in such a way as to pamper guests like a Maharaja. No wonder, the Maharajas’ Express was awarded ‘World’s Leading Luxury Train’ for the two consecutive years in 2012 and 2013.
